Brancaster Photographs – RNLI 50th Annual Service Wells-next-the-Sea

August 14th, 2010 by Janice Alamanou

Copyright Janice Alamanou 2010

I have been on a mission (commission) to capture Brancaster in different ways. I have loved every minute, clocked up a few miles and the results are so worth it. Take a look at: http://www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/search?q=brancaster

Along the way I walked the complete beach of Brancaster to the harbour, managed a trip to Scolt Head, from Burnham Overy Staithe, and walked the beach to Hut Hill. Then finally, I took a boat trip from the harbour of Brancaster Staithe. I arrived in the morning at 7.50am in pouring rain wondering if I should actually get out of the car – cameras and rain? hmm. Within those 10 minutes to 8am (time of departure), the sky started to clear, the rain stopped and rays of sunshine tried to peep through the cumulus nimbus. First we went to the 9th Hole (indicating the beach off the 9th hole of Brancaster Golf Club), even managing to capture the 9th Hole itself – how many balls must end up in the water there I dread to think. The sea was very high the second highest tide of the year, I believe, so we headed toward Brancaster end of Scolt Head and the Natural England site. This was a beautiful stretch of unspoilt, natural landscape. I was very happy. The rain held off and although slightly choppy near the harbour entrance – I managed to get straight horizons. I cannot enthuse enough how much I love the coast.

The final image (above) is a panoramic of Brancaster Staithe from a high point – not always an easy task in Norfolk – unless of course you happened to be standing on a cliff edge. It’s pretty flat until you reach that point!

Keep looking at the site.

Craft Fair – Photography of Norfolk

Hi everyone,

I will be exhibiting at the Wells-next-the-Sea Craft Fair, 26th – 29th July at the Maltings, Staithe Street, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk. 10am to 5pm. There will be framed, canvas and mounted photographs of Norfolk, plus a few others mixed in. Come along and have a look.

I have various new images on show that have not yet been posted to the website – I am updating constantly. Try looking at the site – go to the last pages for the newest work: Coastal Photography Gallery http://www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop

Last week was my Brancaster Staithe solo exhibition – thank you to all my customers. I met some lovely people there and it was a pleasure to chat with you all. I hope to do the same again next year.

After a few days indoors though, I must admit I began to get fidgety and needed to get outside to photograph. I started in the day – not my usual routine – usually early’s and late’s – but I took hold of the camera and was off. A beautiful sunny day and lots of people about which made me turn to the close at hand and narrower view. I started with a few wildflowers and then came the macro shots of bees, insects, flowers with cobweb and various bugs and finally the beach huts on the beach – blasted in sunlight, surrounded by people – so I went behind them and crouched, was on my knees, various positions, to get huts and sand without people. I hope no-one saw – it wasn’t pretty. Last night I then spent a wonderful evening on the beach at Brancaster. Hoping for a good sunset and not disappointed, I got some shots and enjoyed the evening. The light was gorgeous, the sand cool on my feet – somehow I always seem to end up with bare feet -  and as I finished my photography and was walking to the car park a chinese lantern floated into the sky. (Didn’t get a photograph of that – but what a lovely memory).

Keep watching the website. New photos are in beaches, wildlife flowers, wildlife insects and more coming soon.

Bye for now.

This month has been a variety of photography. I recently took some commercial advertising photography for The Lord Nelson pub at Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk - a beautiful, authentic old pub with beams, fire places and steeped in history of Lord Nelson, his local. A joy to do, lovely surroundings, with a stream running outside the front of the pub and a large garden and wooden play area at the rear. Take a brief look at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/36-x-commercial-examples/page2

A visit to the beach is always essential so www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/17-beaches/page50 and the following page will show a few new photographs.

Flowers are in bloom and my passion for wildflowers is a must in my photography at the moment. Forgive me my lack of knowledge on exact names of flowers and birds on the site – my passion is the beauty of the object and natural surroundings. Have a look at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/10-flowers-plants/page3

More landscapes will be on the site shortly. Keep watching for the latest.

Lastly, if you love this area, perhaps you are a walker or just like to chill on the beach, whatever you enjoy – this can be captured in your portrait. Think about it and contact me.

Golden Pheasant Photographs

April 10th, 2010 by Janice Alamanou

Today I came across the Golden Pheasant at Sculthorpe Moor. After visiting several times with only a glimpse of the brightly coloured feathers disappearing into the undergrowth, today I finally managed to get a couple of photographs.  Take a look at the website and put”Sculthorpe” in the search to see more birds and landscape of the moor.

Marsh Harriers also flew overhead although unfortunately a little high, but I did get a shot of a Bank Vole as he came out of his hole, before running under the wooden boardwalk.

A lovely few hours spent there.

Spring Flower Photographs

March 18th, 2010 by Janice Alamanou

Yellow and white is the theme for this flower photography. Spring is on its way and these colours lift the spirit and add a “feel good factor” to the change of the season.

Wells-next-the-Sea

February 21st, 2010 by Janice Alamanou

From lilies to seascapes to snow in the harbour – the last couple of days has been a mixed variety of photography. Sunshine and snow, the great British weather never ceases to make me smile – where else can you get so many seasons in such a short amount of time?

The lilies were part of a Valentines gift and worth photographing. Take a look at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/10-flowers-plants/page3

The draw of the coast gripped me again as I walked out to the foreshore at Wells to capture some seascapes. It is a serene, unspoilt and peaceful place take a look at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/17-beaches/page54 and www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/4-landscapes/page19

Yesterday brought crisp and clear weather and I took some different shots of the old whelk houses up the East End of Wells-next-the-Sea – East Quay. Reflections in puddles on black and white photography enhanced the fisher-men’s sheds, now storage and work units. Take a look at these at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/11-norfolk/page22

And today saw a fresh batch of snow – ‘not more snow’ was my first thought, quickly followed by the putting on of wellies and out the door with the camera. The Tall ship, Albatros, in the snow was a beautiful sight in the harbour with the ducks swimming by, at Wells-next-the-Sea - and struggling to keep the camera from being soaked was still worth it. Take a look at new snow shots at: www.coastalphotography.co.uk/shop/16-snow/page11

That’s all for now,

Janice
